01/06 Update

Just a quick post to record the work from today: Mostly pretty boring/slightly frustrating setup. I had to get a new headset because my first Quest 2 was frequently dropping tracking, so I unboxed the new one and a fancy new cable and went through the setup process there, nothing crazy. Connecting it to the computer was a new exercise in frustration: ongoing issues with USB ports and said fancy new cable and restarting a million times before just resorting to going back to my busted old USB-to-USBC cable and then things were fine. I despise the thankless troubleshooting that comes with this work but it has to get done by somebody, I guess!

After things were up and running, I started to explore the new VR framework I chose. Opening it up really reinforced for me that I don't necessarily know Unity/VR development as much as I know how to follow specific instructions/tutorials, which is a little disheartening but is just a necessary step on the way to developing that fuller knowledge, so I'm  just rolling with it for now. So far, I've disabled the transportation scripts so the player can look around but not move, which is the goal. I'm considering adding a LITTLE bit of wiggle room but we'll see about that later.

I've also started importing the asset packs to go through and choose some stuff for my environment. I was optimistic when first looking at them but I think I will need to supplement; for me, a big part of the humour of the project is being set at a nice restaurant, not just a diner or something, and the strongest way to communicate that is with the environment and what I've grabbed so far are a little casual. I also need to find a better way to manage these packs because in the past, even when I've deleted everything I think I'm not using, they still massively bloat the project size--I think there must be some nested folders that I'm missing.

I'll leave things off here with a screenshot of the temp environment so far. Tomorrow, I'll work on adding in the chicken wing GO and the UI.
